What Paint Correction Actually Does

Every time your vehicle is washed improperly, driven through an automated car wash, wiped with a dry towel, or exposed to environmental contamination, micro-scratches and swirl marks accumulate in the clear coat. Over time, these defects scatter light instead of reflecting it cleanly, making your paint look dull, hazy, and flat - even if the color underneath is perfectly healthy.

Paint correction is the process of using machine polishers with carefully selected compounds and pads to level the clear coat and remove those defects. The result is paint that reflects light like a mirror, with depth and clarity that makes the vehicle look better than it did on the showroom floor.

Single-Stage vs. Multi-Stage Correction

Single-Stage Correction - From $399

A single-stage correction uses one step of machine polishing with a medium-cut compound to remove the majority of swirl marks, light scratches, and water spots. This process typically eliminates 60 to 80 percent of visible defects and dramatically improves gloss and reflection.

Best for: Vehicles with moderate swirl marks, light wash scratches, and paint that looks good but not great. Also the standard preparation step before ceramic coating application.

Multi-Stage Correction - From $699 to $999

Multi-stage correction uses two or three polishing steps, progressing from a heavy-cut compound to a medium-cut and finally a finishing polish. Each stage targets progressively finer defects, achieving 90 to 95 percent defect removal and a level of clarity that is difficult to distinguish from freshly sprayed paint. Best for: Vehicles with heavy swirl marks, deeper scratches, oxidation, water spot etching, or paint that has never been properly maintained. Also recommended before applying paint protection film for a perfectly smooth bonding surface.

Our Paint Correction Process

Step 1: Wash and Decontamination

We begin with a full exterior detail wash, clay bar decontamination, and iron fallout removal. Polishing over contamination would grind particles into the paint and cause more damage - so the surface must be perfectly clean before any machine touches it.

Step 2: Paint Depth Measurement

Using a paint depth gauge, we measure the thickness of your clear coat on every panel. This tells us how much material is available to safely remove and ensures we never thin the clear coat beyond a safe threshold. Some panels may have been repainted or previously polished - the gauge reveals everything.

Step 3: Test Spot

Before polishing the entire vehicle, we perform a test spot on a discreet panel using different compound and pad combinations. This allows us to determine the exact level of correction your paint needs and the most effective combination of products for your specific paint type and hardness.

Step 4: Machine Polishing

Working panel by panel under LED inspection lights, we systematically polish each section until defects are removed and the surface reflects cleanly. We use both dual-action and rotary polishers depending on the paint system and defect severity. Arms are checked frequently and the polisher is kept moving to avoid heat buildup.

Step 5: Panel-by-Panel Inspection

After each panel is polished, we inspect it under multiple light sources - LED strip lights, halogen spotlights, and natural sunlight when available - to confirm the correction is complete and consistent. Any remaining defects are addressed before moving to the next panel.

Step 6: Final Wipe-Down and Protection

Once correction is complete, we wipe down the entire vehicle with an isopropyl alcohol solution to remove polishing oils and reveal the true finish. At this stage, protection is applied - either a sealant, spray ceramic, or the vehicle proceeds to a full ceramic coating application.
